TUMKUR: Actor Arjun Sarja's mother is returning to politics after 23 years. Lakshmi Devamma will contest from Doddeare hobli of Madhugiri taluk in Tumkur district for the zilla panchayat elections.
Her previous stint was in 1987; she contested from the same place on a Congress ticket and won.
Married to actor Shakthi Prasad in 1958, Lakshmi moved to Jakkenahalli village and made a mark for herself through several social initiatives. After her husband's death, the family shifted to Bangalore. And finally, she decided to contest the polls from Doddeare once again.
"I am familiar with this constituency and was a panchayat member here once," Lakshmi said. She will seek the guidance of local Congress leaders, besides her son. "But we don't plan to bring other film stars for campaign," she added.
